On May 26 Pope Benedict XVI opened in the Roman Basilica of St. John Lateran a diocesan conference. Its theme is “Ecclesial Membership and Pastoral Responsibility”. The conference will be in progress until May 29th. In his opening speech the Pope noted that many of the Church’s baptized members do not feel a part of the ecclesial community. For this reason, we must not limit ourselves to preserving what already exists, the Pope concluded, rather we must undertake the path of evangelization.

Happy Times For Homosexual US-Diplomats

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has announced that the federal government will provide benefits to the homosexual partners of American diplomats living abroad. Spouses of diplomats have long been provided with benefits that include language instruction and emergency travel as well as medical care. In a memorandum to State Department employees, Clinton said that "the department will provide these benefits for both opposite-sex and same-sex partners because it is the right thing to do."
