Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed a decree concerning the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Vatican - the Kremlin press service announced. Now the Russian Foreign Ministry is instructed to hold talks with the Vatican to establish the diplomatic relations at the level of a Russian embassy to the Vatican and an apostolic nuncio to the Russian Federation and seek embassy status for the Russian mission to the Vatican. Pope Benedict XVI and Dmitrii Medvedev had a brief meeting last Thursday in the Vatican.

Bishop Celebrates Old Mass in His Cathedral

A Solemn Pontifical Mass at the Throne will take place in St. Ansgar's Catholic Cathedral in Copenhagen Denmark on Sunday, January 10th, 2010. The Celebrant will be the Bishop Czeslaw Kozon of Copenhagen. He will be assisted by clergy of the diocese and of the Priestly Society of Saint Peter. This will be the first Solemn Pontifical Mass according to the older liturgical books celebrated in Scandinavia since the liturgical reform of 1969. The event is rendered all the more significant by the fact that it will be celebrated by the Ordinary in his own cathedral.

Anglican Bishop Becomes Priest

Father John Lipscomb has been ordained a priest of the Catholic Diocese of St. Petersburg in Florida. He is a former Episcopal bishop who served as leader of the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida from 1997 to 2007. In 2007 he converted to Catholicism. Lipscomb is a critic of the Episcopal Church’s tolerance of homosexuality in its episcopate.
