Before leaving the island of Cyprus on Sunday, Benedict XVI met with the Maronite Community of Cyprus in the Cathedral of Our Lady of Graces in Nicosia.Welcomed by the Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Sfeir, the Maronite Archbishop of Cyprus Youssef Soueif, and 300 faithful, the Pope recalled that Maronites came to Cyprus "at various times throughout the centuries and were often hard-pressed to remain faithful to their distinct Christian heritage.
