My muslim colleagues told me they usually gain weight during ramadam.

Yes their idea of "fasting" [i.e. abstaining from food from sunrise to sunset, but gorging oneself at night] is about as ridiculous as the Vatican II concept of fasting as eating "one big meal and 2 lighter 'snacks' that do not equal the meal"
