In June, he intends to focus specifically on the progress made by the groups regarding Evangelii Gaudium, particularly with regard to mission and the transmission of the faith. One of the reasons why the Wenhaston Doom is so appealing is because of this story of its chance survival. Azerbaijani authorities have destroyed Saint Hakob Church in Stepanakert, Nagorno Karabakh, marking another escalation in what observers describe as a systematic campaign against Armenian cultural and spiritual heritage in Artsakh. Saint Hakob Church was a relatively modern but deeply symbolic religious site. Its foundation was laid in September 2005, and construction was completed in early 2007. The church was built with the support of Armenian-American benefactor Nerses Yepremyan in memory of his late son, Hakob Yepremyan.

The French districts of the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter (Clavis.org, April 11) and the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (LaPorteLatine.org, April 13) have publicly clashed over planned episcopal consecrations on July 1. FSSP Position The FSSP argues that the consecrations would be illegitimate because the episcopate, by its nature, requires communion with the Pope and the body of bishops. Consecrating bishops without papal mandate therefore contradicts the Church’s divine constitution, not merely its discipline. It responds to an argument made by the FSSPX (in a technical annex), which refers to Lumen gentium in arguing that episcopal consecration does not itself confer governing authority, and therefore such consecrations would not necessarily break Church unity.
