Leo writes to the cardinals: “Evangelii gaudium remains a key reference point”

Vatican City - On the occasion of Easter, Pope Leo XIV sent a letter to all the members of the College of Cardinals. The text, signed by the Pontiff before his departure for Algeria, comes after Leo XIV had already met the cardinals on several occasions, both individually and collectively. A gesture that confirms a style of governance rooted in direct dialogue, mutual trust and an authentically lived shared responsibility.
Easter greetings and thanks for the Consistory
The letter opens with a fraternal greeting and Easter good wishes, invoking “the peace of the risen Lord” upon a world the Pope describes as “suffering”. Leo XIV then takes the opportunity to thank the cardinals for their participation in last January’s Consistory, expressing particular appreciation for the quality of the work carried out in the groups and for the freedom of the interventions made during the assembly. The contributions gathered on that occasion are described as “a precious resource”, which the …

Why Classical Christian Education Will Save This Country

Editors’ Note: This essay is adapted from a talk for the Society for Classical Learning at Capstone Classical Academy in Fargo, North Dakota, on March 12, 2026.
Larry Arnn, the president of Hillsdale College,
wrote recently about a young man at the college named Luke who has started an organization named after the 12th Legion Fulminata of ancient Rome. The emperor Lucinius put members of the 12th Legion in freezing water to die unless they renounced Christianity. In memory of that Legion, Luke and the members of his group go out to a lake in freezing weather before the sun rises and stand in the water singing hymns and reciting Bible passages.
Arnn writes, “This is a very young-mannish thing to do, but what do they learn from it? To serve. To be strong. To be free. To look up. These are the kind of young Americans who will save our country.”
These young students’ steely determination to embrace suffering in pursuit of virtue calls to mind C. S. Lewis’s favorite philosopher, Boethius …

Leo XIV Promoted Protégé of anti-Catholic Bishop

On 9 April, Pope Leo XIV appointed Mons René Ramirez, 57, as Bishop of Sandhurst, Australia. He had brievly served as Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne.
Born on 29 March 1969 in Gapan, Philippines, he joined the Rogationist Fathers and was ordained a priest on 27 June 1998.
Moving to First World for Healthcare System
He survived a heart attack at the age of only 45. He knew he might experience further health issues, but there is 'no healthcare support from the government' in the Philippines.
Therefore, he began looking for employment in Australia, Fr Ramirez said in an Instagram video. The Melbourne Archdiocese told him that they would be happy to welcome him.
In September 2015, Monsignor Ramirez established a community of the Rogationist Fathers within the Melbourne Archdiocese.

11K views · 849 reactions | One of the wonders of late medieval England? There is truly nothing else quite like the Wenhaston Doom. There are doom paintings else where in England, however, none survive in such a well preserved state. For instance, there is a great doom at St Thomas’s church in Salisbury, however, that has been extensively restored. Additionally, there are many dooms that survive in terrible condition, such as the one at Stanningfield church, also in Suffolk. One of the reasons why the Wenhaston Doom is so appealing is because of this story of its chance survival. The fortune of this story make the feeling of beholding this stunning piece of late medieval art even more overpowering. If anyone is wondering, the gaps in these paintings are the shadow of where the Rood figures would have once stood before the painting. The rood figures included Jesus on the Cross, flanked by John and Mary. Unfortunately, every single doom painting in England was destroyed at the Reformation …Okuninzi

Resign as pope, & go become an imam then: Valentina Gomez

Valentina Gomez: «First, you give them a prayer room inside the Vatican. Second, you visit a mosque instead of the Christians in Nigeria that are being slaughtered by muslims. muslims call for the murder of Christians, Jews, & the rest of the infidels. Resign as pope, & go become an imam then.»
Apostasy from the Faith is defined as “the complete and voluntary abandonment of the Christian religion, whether the apostate embraces another religion such as Paganism, Judaism, Mohammedanism, etc., or merely makes profession of Naturalism, Rationalism, etc.” (Catholic Encyclopedia, s.v. “Apostasy”).

Saint Alphonsus Liguori
Christians have the right to confide in God, contrary to the followers of Mohammed
A priest of the Society of Jesus, who during life devoted a great deal of time to the conversion of sinners, died with joy and confidence of salvation; this some considered to be excessive. Hence he was told that at death we should entertain sentiments of fear as well as of confidence. He answered: Have I served Mahomet? I have served a God who is so grateful and faithful; why, then, should I fear? (Saint Alphonsus Liguori. Dignity and duties of the priest: or, Selva, pg. 172)

Transalpine Redemptorists Organise "Imperfect General Council"

“We are working in our own small way, with our limited manpower, to bring about an Imperfect General Council that will publicly recognise the present Catholic disaster that has no way out but through,” said Father Michael Mary, head of the Congregation of the Transalpine Redemptorists, in an interview with ThePress.co.nz on 10 April.
The group was expelled from the Christchurch Diocese in New Zealand in July 2024 following allegations, primarily concerning unauthorised exorcism practices. The priests denied any wrongdoing. In October 2025, the community repudiated “false shepherds” and recent papal documents without explicitly declaring the papal office vacant.
Their proposed “council” would consist of bishops acting without papal authority, though no names have been given: “There are Catholics all over the world left in ‘Catholic bunkers’ who know what is going on. It is a matter of reaching out to them.”

On April 12, the Armenian Diocese of Artsakh reported the destruction of Saint James Church in Stepanakert following Azerbaijan’s takeover of the region in 2023. The diocese called it part of a “cultural genocide,” citing ongoing attacks on Armenian Christian heritage.

Azerbaijani authorities have destroyed Saint Hakob Church in Stepanakert, Nagorno Karabakh, marking another escalation in what observers describe as a systematic campaign against Armenian cultural and spiritual heritage in Artsakh.
Saint Hakob Church was a relatively modern but deeply symbolic religious site. Its foundation was laid in September 2005, and construction was completed in early 2007. The church was built with the support of Armenian-American benefactor Nerses Yepremyan in memory of his late son, Hakob Yepremyan.

Alleged Abuse Victim: "I Could Not Understand How a Bishop Could Be Attracted to Men"

InfoVaticana.com published the testimony of one of two alleged victims of homosexual abuse by the Peruvian Bishop Antonio Santarsiero Rosa of Huacho. Last week, he stepped down as Secretary General of the Peruvian Bishops’ Conference after two accusers came forward.
Bishop Santarsiero denies any wrongdoing.
He was an institutional colleague of Bishop Robert Prevost of Chiclayo (2014-2023). Santarsiero, Bishop of Huacho since 2004, moved in the same circles, and both held leadership roles in the Peruvian Episcopal Conference. Santarsiero was president of the Economic Council (2020–2022) and Prevost a second vice president of the Peruvian bishops.
The testimony of the anonymous seminarian includes graphic and traumatising details.
"When I was 15, I went to a minor seminary in December 2010. My older brother [name], had gone there before me. He invited me to go. My experience there was positive, and I attended my senior year of high school in [city] in 2011. When my brother left the seminary …Okuninzi

His Holiness Pope Leo XIV Is Not a Politician
Everyone is already seeing the tension building between U.S. President Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV, especially with everything going on right now involving the U.S. and Iran. After the Pope made public appeals for restraint, peace, and basically warning about the dangers of escalating violence, Trump came back pretty strongly, calling him “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy,” and basically saying the Pope doesn’t really understand how global security works.
Now I’ve said this before and I think it still applies here. The Pope is not a politician, and neither are bishops, priests, or any of the clergy. Their job is just different. A lot of people today kind of blur that line and start treating the Church like it’s just another political player in Washington or anywhere else. But that’s not …Okuninzi

FSSP versus FSSPX: Schism and Legalism Accusations

The French districts of the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter (Clavis.org, April 11) and the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (LaPorteLatine.org, April 13) have publicly clashed over planned episcopal consecrations on July 1.
FSSP Position
The FSSP argues that the consecrations would be illegitimate because the episcopate, by its nature, requires communion with the Pope and the body of bishops. Consecrating bishops without papal mandate therefore contradicts the Church’s divine constitution, not merely its discipline.
It responds to an argument made by the FSSPX (in a technical annex), which refers to Lumen gentium in arguing that episcopal consecration does not itself confer governing authority, and therefore such consecrations would not necessarily break Church unity.
The FSSP rejects this interpretation, arguing that - even if jurisdiction is not automatically given - episcopal functions can only be exercised within hierarchical communion. Acting without papal mandate leads in …Okuninzi
