SAINT LAWRENCE - August 10
Deacon and Martyr
(†258)
Feast

St. Lawrence was one of the Roman Church's seven deacons. He was ordained Archdeacon by Pope Sixtus II in 257. One year later, he witnessed Pope Sixtus being led to martyrdom.
When St. Lawrence was summoned by Rome's prefect and ordered to cede the Church's wealth, he promised to deliver riches exceeding all expectations. At the end of 3 days, he brought the Church's poor and crippled to the prefect and said, "Here are the treasures of the church. You see, the church is truly rich, far richer than your emperor!" The prefect was so enraged that he ordered St. Lawrence to be roasted on a gridiron. St. Lawrence had previously distributed the Church's wealth after Emperor Valerian's edict to execute all religious and confiscate their wealth.
St. Lawrence was burned over a slow fire. When his skin was charred, he told the torturers, "Turn me over; I'm done on this side." At length Christ, the Father of the Poor, received him into Heaven …More

Profile
Third-century archdeacon of Rome, distributor of alms, and “keeper of the treasures of the church” in a time when Christianity was outlawed. On 6 August 258, by decree of Emperor Valerian, Pope Saint Sixtus II and six deacons were beheaded, leaving Lawrence as the ranking Church official in Rome.
While in prison awaiting execution Sixtus reassured Lawrence that he was not being left behind; they would be reunited in four days. Lawrence saw this time as an opportunity to disperse the material wealth of the church before the Roman authorities could lay their hands on it. On 10 August Lawrence was commanded to appear for his execution, and to bring along the treasure with which he had been entrusted by the pope. When he arrived, the archdeacon was accompanied by a multitude of Rome‘s crippled, blind, sick, and indigent. He …More

DMSO—a simple compound vets use for spinal injuries the FDA won’t approve. But that’s not the only “incurable” neurological disorder DMSO helps. Approximately 2000 studies support DMSO's use for conditions ranging from Alzheimer's and Parkinson's to strokes, MS, ALS, chronic pain, neuropathy, depression, epilepsy, and Down syndrome, and a physician who began treating his patients with it estimates roughly 80% of what people see neurologists for goes away with DMSO.

“They Want to Kill Me on Friday?” - Great-Grandmother Euthanized in Canada

Brigitte Stegemann was an 83-year-old great-grandmother and a Christian. On July 10, she died through Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) program in Ontario.
Diagnosed with terminal Stage IV stomach cancer, Stegemann had wanted to die naturally. But while her granddaughter and longtime legal representative, Brigitte Kranendonk, was away on vacation, medical personnel discussed MAiD with Stegemann.
She was subsequently deemed capable of choosing MAiD despite allegedly being unable to answer basic questions about her own family. Canadian Catholic News reported that Kranendonk said her grandmother had originally rejected MAiD but was persuaded to request it during her absence.
When Kranendonk returned and asked her grandmother whether she really wanted to die, Stegemann’s reaction was heartbreaking. “I’m supposed to die on Friday? They want to kill me on Friday?”, she reportedly asked through tears.
Her family says she later repeatedly expressed regret, telling them she had made a …More

‘HOW GOD MAKES USE OF PURGATORY…’ ~ ‘Treatise on Purgatory’ by Saint Catherine of Genoa; 1915; Chapters XVI; pp. 42-44

[Saint Catherine of Genoa ~ XV-XVI Century; born: Genoa, Republic of Genoa/ died: Genoa, Republic of Genoa; (aged 62-63); Mystic; Spiritual Writer]
Chapter XVI ~ THE SAINT SHOWS THAT THE SUFFERINGS OF THE SOULS IN PURGATORY DO NOT DESTROY THEIR PEACE OR THEIR JOY.
I SEE that the souls in purgatory in the midst of their pains are sensible
of doing two things :
First, that they are suffering willingly ; for when they perceive their own deserts and God's Majesty, they think that He is treating them with great leniency in afflicting them as He does ; for had not goodness tempered justice with mercy through the satisfactions of the precious Blood of Jesus Christ, a thousand hells would have been the portion of a single sin through all eternity.
Hence they suffer all their pains gladly, and would not rid them of a single pang, knowing that all is justly deserved and righteously ordained : they no more complain of God, so far as their will is concerned, than if they were in life eternal.

"Secondly, they are conscious of feeling positive satisfaction in beholding the love and mercy with which God orders His work within them. They are made sensible of these two facts at one and the same moment, and being in a state of grace, understand them as they are, each soul according to its capacity ; and they experience great happiness, which never grows less, but, on the contrary, goes on increasing the nearer they approach God."

Hiroshima must remain forever in humanity's memory as a warning, not a precedent. Behind that explosion lay lives, families, dreams, and generations scarred by a pain that should never be repeated. No conflict, ideology, or pursuit of power can justify such a tragedy. May the memory of Hiroshima help us understand that, given our capacity for self-destruction, peace, dialogue, and reason are not merely options—they are a responsibility we owe to humanity and to generations yet to come. Never again a nuclear war.

Mums and babies risk lives on mega-dinghies in desperate bid to get to UK

This is the human face of the Channel boats crisis, desperate people on the final leg of a journey that could kill them. Our exclusive images show young children, including some in pushchairs, being bussed to board mega-dinghies to get to Britain. Our investigators tracked a group of around 50 migrants, including small children and women earlier this week as they travelled around 40 miles south-west from France’s largest migrant camp at Loon-Plage, near Dunkirk, to Ecault Forest, close to Boulogne. The group had paid around £1,200 each to make the final leg of their journey to the UK. They also paid extra for lifejackets, sold at stalls in the Loon-Plage camp for up to €50 (£42) – almost double the price in nearby shops. Katie Sweetingham, Head of Operations at charity Care4Calais, says she has seen increasing numbers of women and children, including babies, at the camp since the UK government indefinitely paused family reunion applications in September last year. She said: “Lots of …

Irreducibility and cunning

– Folha de S. Paulo, July 9, 1984 –
by Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira
IN A world wide report by the Ansa News Agency also published by several Roman dailies, “comrade” Alessandro Natta, the new Secretary General of the Italian Communist Party affirmed, in an interview requested by Vatican Radio, that he did not see the Catholic Faith as an “obstacle,” but on the contrary, a “possible point of support” for the “perspectives” that, in his judgment, the Italian Communist Party (PCI) and the Catholic Church have in common.
These perspectives are: “the liberation of man and the peoples, the affirmation of the values of peace and morality in their highest sense” (Il Messaggero, Rome, 6-30-84).
On that occasion, the interviewer appointed by Vatican Radio asked Natta if “something new will arise in the relations between the PCI and the Catholic world.” The answer of the Italian politician was evasive, but not devoid of significance: “It would be timely and just to follow the inspiration that began …More
