Blessed Charbel Makhlouf and Catholic Lebanon’s Medieval Charm

Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira
Saint of the Day, Monday, January 31, 1972
Saint Charbel Makhlouf (1828-1898) was beatified 5 December 1965 and canonized 9 October 1977.
I noticed that Blessed Charbel Makhlouf’s biography is relatively poor because — I seem to glimpse — his story is one of the fully normal developments. Imagine someone writing the history of a country that developed perfectly in all its stages and reached its fullness normally, without any hindrance or trouble. However brilliant and magnificent, that story would fit into a little space.
We can see that Blessed Charbel Makhlouf never faltered nor had any problem. As his countenance indicates, his sanctification was exceptional, powerful, and continual. If you can use this expression, he was a bulldozer of holiness. As his face shows, he faced the cross head on and corresponded until he dropped dead. I want to project his picture, so you understand that well.
We realize that his sanctification must have occurred amid storms and …More

Why God Sometimes Allows Spiritual Darkness
During times of spiritual difficulty and purification, it may feel like God has abandoned us, but this is not the case. God allows us to experience these feelings to purify us of selfishness and strengthen our virtues. Like Mother Teresa, we should focus on loving and serving others, even when we don’t feel God’s presence, because He is always with us, guiding us towards sainthood.
The journey to holiness involves four stages: the active and passive nights of the senses, and the active and passive nights of the spirit. While we can actively pursue virtues like humility, true perfection requires God’s transformative work through trials and darkness. These experiences, though painful, are ultimately rewards that purify us and deepen our charity, the foundation of all virtues.

James Martin SJ Wants the Church to Ordain [More] Homosexual Priests: Homosexual activist Fr James Martin SJ has called on Pope Leo XIV to remove the – largely unenforced – restrictions against "celibate homosexuals" to become priests. Fr Martin believes that "sexual orientation" alone should not stop a man from being ordained. He points to Pope Francis, who said there are already many "holy, healthy and celibate" homosexual priests. However, in 2005 Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger concluded that men with deep-seated homosexual temptations should not enter the seminary because they lack the emotional maturity needed for lifelong celibacy.

Father James Martin calls for ‘gay priests’

Continuing his public advocacy on LGBT issues, Fr James Martin SJ has argued that the Catholic Church should officially admit ‘gay’ priests. In a new essay published by his pro-LGBT organisation Outreach, Fr James Martin has presented his case for why the Church should admit homosexuals to the priesthood. He notes that he is only in favour of admitting celibate men, but after establishing that as the foundation of his argument, the prominent Jesuit calls on the Church to change its rules regarding seminary admission and ordination.

German Balloon Mass with Female Dialogue Homily: On 22 July, a Eucharist in Munich to celebrate the Feast of St Mary Magdalene featured a woman performing a liturgical dance in a red dress. Another woman wearing an alb and a stole-like liturgical scarf delivered a dialogue homily with Auxiliary Bishop Wolfgang Bischof and stood near the altar during the Eucharist. Red balloons were also used during the celebration.

Diese Woche hat eine Frau eine Dialog-Predigt mit Weihbischof Wolfgang Bischof (München) gehalten. Der liturgische Tanz im Video stammt aus dieser Messe. Anlass war das Fest der Maria Magdalena.

Nuncio Gänswein Praises Leo XIV and Trump - Attacks Putin

Archbishop Georg Gänswein, currently Nuncio to the Baltic States, praised Pope Leo XIV and U.S. President Donald Trump while attacking Russian President Vladimir Putin in an interview with DomRadio.de on July 22.
Monsignor Gänswein said Pope Leo XIV has brought "a new sense of relief" to the Church.
"Peace is the key word," he believes. "From his very first address, Pope Leo placed the peace of the Risen Christ at the center of his message."
According to the nuncio, the Pope's emphasis on peace has [allegedly] transformed the atmosphere. "It has turned headwinds into tailwinds. Whether that wind will change again remains impossible to predict."
Bond with Pope Benedict XVI
Reflecting on his years alongside Benedict XVI, Archbishop Gänswein said their relationship developed from a professional one into a close personal friendship.
"We not only worked together but also lived under one roof and spent every day together," he recalled. "During the ten years after his resignation, our relationship …More

How to Avoid the Fire of PURGATORY and how to Release Families and Friends from Purgatory.

1) The Holy Scriptures teach about Purgatory as a Place of purification to attain the necessary holiness to see God.
a) 2 Maccabees 12:39–46; The next day, they went in search of Judas to gather the bodies of those who had fallen and lay them to rest with their relatives in their fathers’ tombs. Then they found, under the tunics of each of the dead, objects consecrated to the idols of Jamnia, which the Law forbids to the Jews. It was then clear to all why those men had perished. They all blessed the works of the Lord, the just Judge who reveals hidden things, and they turned to supplication, praying that the sin committed might be completely erased. The valiant Judas urged the crowd to keep themselves free from sin, in light of what had happened because of the sin of those who had perished. After collecting nearly 2,000 drachmas from his men, he sent them to Jerusalem to offer a sin offering, acting in a most beautiful and noble way, with the resurrection in mind. For if he had not …More

Locally, a former SSPX priest named William T. Welsh, who at least until recently had been living in the south suburbs, was the subject of an unusual federal court case in Chicago that began in 2020, as the government of Australia sought to have him extradited to face child sex charges.
An American, Welsh once ministered in Australia for SSPX, and authorities there charged him with 11 counts of indecent assault and two counts of gross indecency with a person under 16 years, court records show.
“Welsh was ordained a Catholic priest on 1 December 1985,” court records show. “In 1985 he was assigned as a collaborator in Hampton, Australia, until August 1986. After spending some time in different locations, Welsh was assigned as a prior in Hampton from January 1986 until July 1993.”
While in that suburb of Melbourne, he repeatedly sexually assaulted a female parishioner when she was between 12 and 15 years old, including at times on the church property, authorities allege.
The case was dropped …More

Secrecy over sex abuse permeates traditionalist Catholic group whose leaders were excommunicated by Pope Leo - Chicago Sun-Times

A “fraternity” of priests whose leaders recently were excommunicated by Pope Leo XIV — and that maintains a presence in the Chicago area with a church in Oak Park and a priory on the Northwest Side — fashions itself as an authentic practitioner of Catholicism. But the Society of St. Pius X, perhaps known best for embracing the old Latin mass and other practices and beliefs often described as traditionalist or conservative, shares an unfortunate characteristic with many of the more mainstream Catholic religious orders: a history of accusations of child sexual abuse. While some of the troubles are known publicly — including in France, where a priest from the society was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2023 for sexual misconduct against 27 minors — it’s unclear how widespread they’ve been within the international organization, often referred to as SSPX. The group’s website decries the scourge of sexual abuse, saying it’s “concerned with the safety of all those who are members and guests …
